When creating a new Content Category (e.g., Process), you can define add Metadata fields to store additional capture key information relevant related to the pages under in that category.

As anadministrator, you have the authority to determine which Metadata fields are mandatory for users to complete within this Content Category. This is done by simply selecting the “Required” checkbox can choose which of these fields users must fill out by simply checking the “Required” box when setting up each Metadata field.

For exampleinstance, you might add require fields such as like Process Owner , Description as mandatory. Reminder that you can mark a Metadata field as not required at any time.

You can mark fields as required or optional at any time, not just during creation. Just edit the Content Category to make adjustments whenever needed.

Assign Content Category with required Metadata fields to a Confluence page:

When you assign a Content Category to a page or create a page: new page using a template linked to that Content Category, the following will be displayed.

  • Required fields are indicated with a red asterisk ( * ) on the page.

  • Users must fill in all required metadata fields before they can save the page.

  • If a required field is left blank , Confluence will display and user clicks “Save” button, an error message will be shown and prevent the Metadata from being will not be saved.

When a user creates a new Page from a Template that has a Content Category assigned, they will be prompted to fill in the associated metadata fields during the page creation process.

  • If you attempt to save without completing the required fields, an error message will appear indicating that the fields must be filled in.

  • If the user clicks "Close" without saving, when creating a page using templates, a warning message will be shown:

    • If the user clicks "Close" without saving while creating a page from a template, a warning message will appear:

    • Clicking "Confirm" will close the dialog without assigning a Content Category to the page. (Mandatory fields must be filled in before a category can be assigned.)

    • Clicking "Cancel" will return the user to the Metadata edit dialog, where they can complete the required fields and save.
