When creating a new Content Category (e.g., Process), you can define Metadata fields to store additional information relevant to pages under that category. As an administrator, you have the authority to determine which Metadata fields are mandatory for users to complete within this Content Category. This is done by simply selecting the “Required” checkbox when setting up each Metadata field.
For example, you might add fields such as Process Owner or Description as mandatory. An admin can mark a Metadata field as required or not required at any time by editing the Control Category, this doesn't need to be done only during creation.
Assign Content Category with required Metadata fields to a Confluence page:
When you assign a Content Category to a page or create a new page using a template linked to that Content Category, the following will be displayed.
Required fields are indicated with a red asterisk ( * ) on the page.
Users must fill in all required metadata fields before they can save the page.
If a required field is left blank, an error message will be shown and the Metadata will not be saved.
If the user clicks "Close" without saving, when creating a page using templates, a warning message will be shown:
Clicking “Confirm” will close the dialog without assigning a Content Category to the page, since all mandatory fields must be completed before assignment.
Alternatively, selecting “Cancel” will return the user to the Metadata edit dialog, where they can fill in the required fields and save.
